PREVENTION.
Emotional And Mental Health Workshop (EAMH) for young people.
Not so long ago there was so much ignorance around the way the way we treat people affected by AIDS. Little was known and people with the disease were treat like social pyriahs, the stigma attached to the disease was massive. Through education and time however, we became aware of the myths and are better equipped to look and deal the disease differently.
The same has to be done with Mental health, the stigma attached to it and educating young people on the importance of their own mental health has to be a priority if we are to combat the stigmas attached to it and reduce suicide.
Emotional & mental health affect everybody. The threat of suicide is an ever increasing problem & is now one of the main causes of premature death in this country in young men aged 15 – 28 years.Awareness plays a massive role in the prevention of these issues.
IUCSF believes “There is Always a Way” & that by encouraging young people to open up & SHARE their problems then this could save lives. We feel that when a person takes their own life they do not want to die but have forgotten how to live. A workshop has been designed by If U Care Share Foundation. The workshop which was the result of feedback received from research and collaboration with a focus group combining young people, teachers and health professionals.
The workshop is aimed at young people from 15+ and works within in various environments. It is FUN and INTER-ACTIVE We ran the EAMH workshop within education and sports environment. The feedback has exceeded anyones hopes and expectations.
The number of young people who have taken part in the workshop exceeds over 800 since the beginning of 2011.
Plans to work with over 7000 young people in 2012 are now underway. This is part of work which we will announce as part of an exciting new working partnerships which will be announced in next couple of weeks.
