National Lead On Suicide – Keith Foster Joins As Patron.

IUCSF are absolutely delighted to announce Keith Foster as Patron of the Charity. Keith has been a key member of the suicide prevention strategy since it was introduced by 2002. Now semi-retired Keith lives in Leeds, Keith is  a keen traveller..
Keith was a career civil servant having worked for over 30 years for the Department of Health in various policy positions. He has also worked as a resettlement office for homeless men in London, managed a day centre for Mind and worked at Broadmoor Special Hospital.  Keith worked as the national suicide prevention strategy lead since the strategy was first launched in September 2002 and also supported in the development of the draft consultation on preventing suicide in England, published in July 2011.
“Suicide is a major public health issue and in many ways the level of suicide in a particular area reflects the public health and well-being of that community. The consequences of suicide in emotional and practical terms are felt by many of us – from close family members and friends, to work colleagues, and the many statutory and voluntary agencies involved in supporting those who may be vulnerable to suicide. We have made good progress in England over recent years in reducing suicide but each suicide represents both an individual tragedy and a loss to society. It is important to emphasis that suicides are not inevitable. Identifying and supporting those who are vulnerable to suicide, including those bereaved or affected by a suicide,  and intervening quickly and effectively when someone is in distress or in a crisis is key to reducing risk. We must continue to do all we can to help prevent these tragedies and strive to reduce the number of suicides in our communities ”.
We are proud to have Keith as a patron and the experience and knowledge he can bring are a huge benefit to the charity. Welcome Keith.
