Media

In order to launch IUCSF campaign we realised that we needed to involve the media to try and reach as wide an audience as early as possible.  We chose to therefore openly talk about our experience, a decision that some people may not agree with however we felt we needed the media to tell our story to fully explain the reason for the campaign.  This provided coverage in both Local and National Newspaper, Television and Radio.
We also agreed to take part in a documentary on BBC 1 called “Run for Glory” which involve  Dean training for and finally running the Flora London Marathon in April 2006.
Having previously been a 19 stone “non-runner” and not feeling his best, this was quite an achievement.   Running enabled him to stop taking the anti depressants and sleeping tablets he had been prescribed since Daniel had died.
This was however a major commitment and journey for all of the family, opening up our lives for the TV cameras.
His valiant efforts and the fantastic support of others also allowed us raise over £15,000 for Samaritans N.E. Region.
As football plays a key part in the lives of many young men we sent wristbands to all Premier and Northeast football clubs, as well as  other  public figures we came across and explained about  ifucareshare and asked them to wear and have their photo taken wearing the wristbands.
The film below is film produced by three 2nd year Media students from Sunderland University. The film shows the impact of Daniel’s suicide on his family and friends. It is used as a prevention tool with various agencies.
